The Institute for Climate Change and Adaptation (ICCA), University of Nairobi, conducted a training programme on "Devolution and Climate Change" for the Devolution and Climate Change Adaptation DeCCA Programme members , at Vittoria Suites, Kisumu, from 4th to 8th April 2016. The (DeCCA) Programme is a joint venture comprising of the following non-governmental organisations: SusWatch Kenya, VIRED International, CREPP, OSIENALA and UMANDE Trust.
16 participants attended the workshop from the DeCCA programme. The participants were from Kisumu and Homa Bay Counties. Training was conducted over a period of five days comprising of 14 technical sessions, 4 group discussions and exercises sessions, as well as a day of fieldwork. The training was delivered by four resource persons from the Institute namely Prof. Wandiga, Dr. Dulo, Prof. Olago and Dr. Ouma.
The training addressed 9 topics related to devolution and climate change adaptation including an introduction to Climate change, concepts of vulnerability in climate change and good governance in climate change. Participants praised the workshop as being highly interactive and bringing clarity to the question of what climate change is and how it affects us.
Outputs included a map of the two counties indicating the Climate change related hotspots found in the counties.
