The first cohort to attend the Workshop on Mendeley in University of Nairobi will be the postgraduate students (Masters & PhD) at the College of Biological & Physical Sciences, Institute for Climate Change & Adaptation.
The workshop will cover information management skills, research writing and best practice in relation to referencing. The participants will be introduced to Mendeley and how it can help them organize their PDFs and references, insert citations and generate bibliographies, access papers from any computer/ handheld device, as well as collaborate with others in their area of research. There will be an opportunity for hands-on experience on PCs in the training room, and they will be able to find and store collections of references for use in their research. By the end of the workshop the participant will have:
•Gained an understanding of how Mendeley can help to manage references efficiently.
•Practiced harvesting PDFs and references from online databases into their own Mendeley collection.
•Learnt how to cite using Mendeley
•Created their own Mendeley accounts and web profiles
•They will be able to assess whether Mendeley is an appropriate tool to use.
