The establishment of the Institute for Climate Change and Adaptation was approved by the University of Nairobi Senate on September, 22, 2012. The Institute admitted its first cohort of students in March 2013. We now have an enrollment of 216 masters and PhD students. We have graduated one PhD and two MCCA students. We look forward to many more graduating from 2017.

The Institute’s academic staff consists of a diversified team of experts and researchers drawn from within and across the University of Nairobi environ. They are dedicated to building human capacity necessary to address the unique climate change adaptation needs of vulnerable communities through teaching, action-oriented research, development of innovative technologies and community participation. It provides expert advice for national and regional policy formulation and implementation.

Since its establishment the Institute’s mission remains. This is being achieved through the offering of formal training on climate change science and adaptation at postgraduate level (Master’s and Doctorate), offering of professional short courses for various climate change and adaptation actors and stakeholders in the public and private sectors including NGOs; undertaking climate change and adaptation research and engaging in knowledge exchange; action-oriented community outreach programmes for implementation of practical climate change and adaptation options; and policy advice on climate change and adaptation. The institute applies transdisciplinary approaches to its teaching, research and actions. Finally, it becomes a laboratory for policy learning and adjustment.

I invite you to join us or share your ideas with us.
