ICCA Postgraduate fieldwork held at Kenya School of Government (KSG), Kwale County.

The students will carry out an assessment in the Coastal Plain and Foot Plateau areas.

They will also explore the society-industry-water-environment nexus and climate change adaptation in the area of the Coastal Plain and the Foot Plateau where there are a number of intersecting activities such as titanium mining, large-scale sugarcane growing, mangrove exploitation and conservation, land and marine-based tourism, and a growing rural population carrying out subsistence agriculture.

The fieldwork will take place in Kwale County in southeast Kenya. Kwale has four major topographic features, namely; the Coastal Plain, the Foot Plateau, the Coastal Uplands and the Nyika Plateau.

The Kwale County coastline is about 250 kilometers and the land consists of corals, sands and alluvial deposits. The Foot Plateau, behind the coastal Plain lies at an altitude of between 60 and 135 meters above sea level and comprises the red Aeolian Magarini sands, Mazeras sandstones, and sandy soils.
